Auch die Verlaufsformen können, wie wir schon beim present continuous gesehen haben, siehe Kapitel 9.2.3, ein Modalverb haben. Das Modalverb steht dann im simple past. Die Sätze erhalten dann eine konjunktivische Bedeutung, siehe Kapitel 8.2.5.

Er dürfte gerade im Begriff gewesen sein, aus dem Haus zu gehen

ist allerdings gering.
