32.4 Vorschläge und Ratschläge

Im Englischen wie auch im Deutschen können Vorschläge und Ratschläge auch in Frageform vorgebracht werden. Damit erreicht man, dass der Vorschlag oder Ratschlag höflicher und zurückhaltender klingt. Auch hier gilt wieder, dass eine Konjunktivform abschwächend wirkt. Außerdem kann eine weitere Abstufung erfolgen, indem man die Frage in Negativform stellt (solltest du nicht...?). Modalverben, die für das Geben und Erbitten von Vorschlägen und Ratschlägen herangezogen werden, sind:

Und dann gibt es wieder andere Formen, die im selben Sinne verwendet werden können.

Konditionalsatz 'if I were you' I would not go and buy a car with no money if I were you.
Konditionalsatz 'if you ask me' If you ask me, I would go to the sea and just have a good time.
to advise He advised me to go to see a doctor.
The best thing is She said, the best thing was to go and ask.
had better You had better check the tires before going on a long trip with the car.
